SAAM is a volunteer organization with no paid staff.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of museums and SAAM is no different. The dedication and enthusiasm of our 180 volunteers keeps the museum alive and progressing. If you have an interest in aviation and would like to help, then SAAM might be the place for you. You might choose to work on the desk greeting visitors or be trained as a tour guide. You might work behind the scenes in the library, cataloguing donated books or digitising photographs. Maybe you could join the curator or display teams or help with maintenance and landscaping. If you have a background in aircraft maintenance and engineering, you might find a place in our workshop restoring aircraft or associated aviation equipment. We also need people who can help with public relations, marketting, administration and of course, people who like researching.
There are perks to being a SAAM member. One is that members can negotiate to use the facilities for private functions. This photo is from the evening when our most senior member Jimmy Pink celebrated his 100th birthday in fine style in Hangar 1.
SAAM has two categories of members.
Full members and Friends of the Museum (FOM).
