ARDU
The Royal Australian Air Force established the No. 1 Air Performance Unit in 1943 to test and evaluate aircraft and new aircraft modifications. Renamed the Aircraft Research and Development Unit (ARDU) in 1947, the unit later relocated to RAAF Edinburgh in South Australia, where it continues to play a vital role in testing and evaluating aircraft and weapons for the Australian Defence Force.
The South Australian Aviation Museum proudly preserves the history of ARDU through its unique collection of aircraft and displays. We gratefully acknowledge the ongoing support of RAAF History and Heritage and RAAF ARDU in helping preserve and share South Australia's rich aviation heritage.
