Engines Rolls Royce Nene

MANUFACTURER: C.A.C Australia

POWER: 5000 lb static thrust

HISTORY: The Nene was designed to an Air Ministry request, in 1944, for an engine of 4,200 lb thrust. The prototype, designed and built in five months, was first run on 27 October of that year.

After minor modifications, 5000 pounds of thrust was obtained, making it by far the most powerful engine in the world at that time.

The Nene was widely used throughout the world by the United Kingdom, Soviet Union, America, Canada, and Australia. This example is a locally manufactured (CAC) model, and was used to power the Museum's Vampire Fighter, A79-202
