DESCRIPTION: 235-420, 0540 6 Cylinder horizontally opposed air-cooled engine of 380 Hp Many today have direct fuel injection and are turbocharged.

DATE: 1939 to present

DEVELOPMENT: Began production of engines in 1929, The first horizontally opposed 4 cylinder engines came out in 1938. The 4 cylinder version is more common than the 6 cylinder format.

TRIVIA:

Lycoming is currently the world's largest producer of aero engines.

Nearly all Cessnas, Pipers, and Aero Commanders have Lycoming engines.

Tens of 1,000's produced.
