DEVELOPMENT: The Cheetah IX was a development of the Lynx engine.

HISTORY: The Cheetah IX was the engine that powered the Avro Anson, the most numerous aircraft in the RAAF inventory throughout World War 2. Cheetah X's also powered the RAAF Airspeed Oxford, a twin engine trainer similar to the Anson. Total production of Cheetah models was over 37,200 engines. The Museum has several of these engines, one of which is in running condition. This engine is run at the Museum's special engine run events held several times each year.
